(17 Oct 2017) LEADIN: The trial of detained leaders of Morocco's Rif social movement resumed today (Tuesday) at the Court of Appeal in port city Casablanca. No trial date has been set for the moveme...
Single mums fight through the Moroccan courts to get help from the fathers of their children: extraordinary access to a rarely-glipsed world at the cutting edge of modern Islam. Taster cut from extensive rushes. If you would like to help complete or distribute this film, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org Rabha Haymar was married at 14 to her deaf and dumb 21 year old cousin. He beat her and threw her out when she became pregnant. Now she knows that the marriage had no official status and she is a single mum, a social pariah. We follow her through two court hearings from tears to triumph, with the help of her feisty female lawyer, and a radical Casablanca charity. Rabha's story is interwoven with other women's powerful, engaging, sometimes funny stories.

Lawyers for the Moroccan rapper Mouad Belghouat, detained on charges of defamation, on Wednesday asked a Casablanca court for the release of their client. Belghouat, also known as El-Haged, which means enraged in Arabic, was arrested on March 29. Known for his songs about corruption and social injustice, Belghouat is being tried for insulting state employees and official institutions. The police accused him of posting a song on the Internet, along with photos which it claims are insulting, like one of an officer with a donkey's face. The judge denied a defense request for bail after the prosecutor claimed the rapper posed as a threat to public order. His lawyers, however, told the trial judge that his case should be dropped because of some procedural complications but the...
